The Peter L. Spinetta Family Law Center houses five of Contra Costa County's six family law-related courtrooms at 751 Pine Street in Martinez. Every effort has been made to ensure that the Spinetta facility is accessible, convenient and user friendly.
Inside the Spinetta Center
Everyone entering the Spinetta Center must go through a security check to help make sure that everyone in the building is safe at all times.
Inside the Spinetta Center, a staff person will welcome you and direct you to where you need to go to conduct your court business. In appropriate cases, you may be referred to a court attorney (family law facilitator) who is available Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM to answer question and provide procedural information for persons who are representing themselves in court.
Family Law Facilitator Services
Persons who do not have a lawyer to represent them in Court may have a 10 minute drop-in appointment with a court attorney (Family Law Facilitator) to obtain brief answers to procedural questions. The appointments are available Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Spinetta Center. Appointments are also available at other court locations.
Windows #9 and #10
Domestic Violence Restraining Order forms and instructions are accessible electronically. Window #9 in the Spinetta Center is available for people who prefer to submit paper copies of their Domestic Violence Restraining Order forms. Window #10 is where people can submit a request for emergency orders (called ex parte, which means "one side only – in absence of the other side").
Mediation and Investigation Windows
The Mediations and Investigations windows are at the rear of the lobby in the Spinetta Center. These windows are used to check in for appointments with Child Custody Recommending Counselors (formerly known as "mediators").
The Family Law filing counter is located just inside the building, on the left. Family Law staff accepts all filings in family law cases except Ex Parte's (filed at Window #10) and Domestic Violence Restraining Order papers (submitted electronically or at Window #9). The filing windows also accept payment of family law filing fees. Clerk windows open to the public at 8:00 AM and close at 3:00 PM.
There are three public computer workstations on the first floor. These computers do not have printing capabilities at this time. Coin-operated photocopiers are available on the first and second floors.
Metered parking is available on all streets surrounding the Wakefield Taylor Courthouse (meters take only quarters).
